# the pH studio

> Anhydrous (waterless) colour cosmetics R&D consultancy based in Toronto, Canada, led by cosmetic chemist Preeti Halleppanavar. Partners with beauty brands and founders from formulation through commercialization, working in an advisory capacity and directing bench work through the client's existing lab or contract manufacturer.

the pH studio is a one-person senior R&D practice, not an agency and not a contract lab. Preeti sets and steers technical direction; the bench work runs through your lab or manufacturer. The specialty is anhydrous chemistry — sticks, balms, crayons, glosses, oils, cream compacts, and waterless colour of every kind, which is most of makeup.

Preeti has fifteen years across L'Oréal, Bite Beauty, and Estée Lauder, where she led R&D for MAC Cosmetics. She holds a Master's in Cosmetic Science and won the 2021 CEW Beauty Award in the Lip Treatment category. Projects run remotely with brands anywhere; she is based in Toronto and visits labs and manufacturers on site when the work calls for it.

## Services

- Formulation development — from a concept or texture reference to a stable anhydrous formula ready for production. Includes benchmarking, the technical brief, bench oversight, stability and scale-up readiness.
- Scale-up and troubleshooting — root-cause diagnosis and rescue work for formulas that behave in the lab and fail in production: texture drift, bleed, sweating, breakage, fill and batch-to-batch variation.
- Fractional R&D leadership — ongoing part-time senior R&D leadership for brands without a full-time technical voice: innovation roadmap, launch prioritization, manufacturer and supplier management, scientist mentoring.
- Technical review — a fixed-scope, flat-fee review of a misbehaving formula or a brief before it is locked. One to two weeks, written findings with a recommended path.
